In JunoViewer Web, the deterioration model’s assumptions and constraints are specified in an Excel file (called the Deterioration Model Setup file, or DMS file), which has to be formatted in a specific way. By making use of an Excel file, JunoViewer can access Excel’s powerful equation definition syntax. More importantly, the use of Excel to define the model setup means that there is no need to implement a complex and cumbersome user interface to define the model, as is the case with some other deterioration modelling software.
This also means that any user with moderate Excel skills can manipulate JunoViewer’s deterioration model. However, the disadvantage of using Excel to define the model setup is that the user has to have a very good understanding of the required file format and how the model is defined through the DMS file. Although JunoViewer applies an extensive check to ensure that the model setup file is free of errors and inconsistencies, this will only work to a certain extent. If an uninformed user tries to manipulate the DMS file without a proper understanding of the file structure – errors WILL occur.
A detailed guideline to the format and structure of the DMS file will be documented over time in other parts of the Deterioration Modelling forum, and a good place to start is here. However, please take note that the preferred procedure for creating and implementing a DMS file is to work in conjunction with Juno Services - or an approved agent appointed by Juno Services. During this cooperation, we will check to ensure your file is correctly formatted and that your modelling preferences are likely to be executed correctly. In fact, many clients rely on Juno Services to manage the DMS file on their behalf based on their specific needs. In such cases users do not need to have an in-depth understanding of how the DMS file works.
If you want to have a more direct control over your DMS setup file, you will have to arrange for a training session geared specifically toward the DMS file. After you have attended such a workshop, you should be able to manage and refine your DMS file through the use of this help forum and with support from Juno Services or one of its approved agents.
