This post is part of a series of posts titled Getting Started with the FIT and will guide you through setting up your FIT, using your FIT, and troubleshooting in your FIT. Click here to view an overview of the series.

1.1 Select Your Device

Purchasing the right device is an important step in making the most of the FIT and its features. Our recommended minimum specifications, based on the software and user feedback, are as follows:
  • Windows 7 or later operating system (new tablets are generally available with Windows 10 pre-installed)
  • 10" (or larger) screen size
  • 2GB RAM
  • Detachable keyboard facility
  • USB and/or Micro-USB port
  • Rear facing camera
  • Good resolution (HD or Full HD)

The following devices satisfy the above specifications:
  • Microsoft Surface Pro
  • HP Spectre X2
  • Lenovo MiiX 700

Smaller devices, such as Toshiba Encore 8 and Acer Vivo Tab 7, are not recommended for a few reasons:
  • Limited screen space means the features of the FIT, especially those containing text are more compact and difficult to read;
  • Often not equipped with detachable keyboards and although the FIT has been designed to make use of touch screen technology, our users still prefer to have a keyboard to type longer comments if required;
  • Generally have inferior internal processors resulting in slower responses.

1.2 Prepare Your Device

Once a suitable device is purchased you will need to prepare your device. Prior to downloading and installing the FIT please ensure the following points are addressed:

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6

Ensure you have the Microsoft.NET Framework 4.6 installed on your device. To check your device, open the Control Panel, select 'Program and Features' (or similar), and check for the files which should appear something like 'Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.XXX'. If the files are not installed, click the link below to open the official Microsoft page where you can download the installer and install on your device.

Note: the framework is pre-installed on the majority of Windows 8.1 devices and higher.

SQLite

The FIT and associated SQLite database (.db3) require the installation of C++ libraries on your device. To download the file (.zip), click on the following link.

https://secure.junoviewerweb.com/useruploads/tools/SQLite%20Library%20Installation.zip

Once downloaded, unzip the file and double click "sqlite-netFx45-setup-x86-2012-1.0.93.0.exe" to extract the files and install on your device.

Date and Time Settings

The date and time settings on your device should be correct to ensure your offline databases are properly synchronised.

Permissions

The FIT application has been set up as a trusted file for many Anti-Virus software systems. However, if your company has a bespoke system in place you may need to contact your IT department and ask for the FIT to be added as a "Trusted App". In addition, the FIT needs to be able to access https://secure.junoviewerweb.com for the purposes of synchronising data. Please ensure that this site is accessible from your browser.

1.3 GPS Receiver for your device

GPS is an important part of the FIT, and in order to properly utilise the GPS functionality we recommend an external GPS receiver be connected to your device.

There are number of reasons an external GPS receiver, as opposed to internal GPS, is recommended. External receivers detect more satellites, increase signal strength, achieve better accuracy, and are cost effective and easily replaced (as opposed to replacing or repairing a failed internal GPS).

The receiver we recommend and currently use for testing is the US Global Sat BU-353-W.

Other modern and reliable GPS receivers should also would seamlessly with the FIT. However, if you run into problems please use the GPS Trouble Shooter in the FIT and send a copy of the resulting text to Lonrix Support for assistance.
